Current campaign: Live and Loud: Letterpress Music Posters

Moveable Type Studio is a mobile printing studio that travels around regional communities of Australia offering hands-on workshops, public activations and professional development events. At the 2027 Tamworth Country Music Festival, we will be offering public demonstrations of letterpress printing, and collaborating with up and coming musicians to produce printed music posters. Over three days, Clint Harvey and the MTS team will design and print an original letterpress poster live with each of three emerging bands, including the Rusty Pickups.

Festival-goers can watch the presses run, meet the musicians and printers, and pull a print themselves. Each band takes home a limited-edition poster to promote their music and sell as merch.

We’re raising $5,000 through the Australian Cultural Fund to cover artist fees, materials and getting the studio to Tamworth. Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.

About the studio

Moveable Type Studio is a Brisbane-based mobile letterpress studio housed in a custom-fitted 40-foot shipping container. It carries a working collection of historical presses, wood and lead type, and typographic equipment, and serves as a classroom, public workshop space and Australian typographic archive.

Designer and educator Clint Harvey founded the studio in 2021 with support from the design community through a successful GoFundMe campaign. Clint joined the graphic arts trade in Brisbane in the 1980s and has spent more than 20 years running letterpress workshops and typography classes for students, professional designers and the curious public.

Today the studio travels throughout Queensland and New South Wales, taking hands-on letterpress to regional towns, festivals, libraries and museums. Clint and Dzintra Menesis combine historical presses with digital design and fabrication, drawing on library, archive and museum collections to create prints that participants set, ink and pull themselves. Along the way, the studio helps rescue and preserve Australia’s letterpress and typographic history.
